Chocolate habs have a lil smoky flavor but that is just my taste buds talking. Most of the BBQ sauces use actually smoked peppers of any kind.

I agree with Romy. Chocolate habs have a unique, smoky flavor.
I find that some Chile de Arbol also have a woody, smoky burn to them.

I haven't tasted any yet but someone described Hot Portugals as "smokey" to me.

Some grocery stores carry dried De Arbols (usually in the mexican food section). I buy them, soak them in water for a couple of hours and cook with them. They have a nice smokey flavor, good heat and are pretty cheap.
Louisiana Hot Sauce makes a Chipotle sauce that is perfect for adding to mayo or yogurt for a spicy smokiness that is hard to beat on turkey burgers or any sandwich. I keep a bottle in the fridge at all times.

Bruce, the Arbols even have some of that smoky flavor when fresh.
I started my Arbols from seeds in one of those packs of dried Mexican peppers.
