Holy hot Cherry Bombs

Complete garden newbie here, and today I ate my very first home grown hot pepper! It was a Cherry Bomb and had turned 85% red, and probably could have gone another few days, but I was way too excited and inpatient.

Seared it to remove the skin, removed ribs and seeds, then drizzled with olive oil and stuffed it cream cheese (sadly no prosciutto or similar meats on hand today), popped it into my mouth and....

AUGH!!!! That thing was so spicy! I swear, I eat spicy foods, I chow down on jalapenos like they are cucumbers, I cook regularly with Thai peppers, serranos, and the like. My favorite salsa is Mrs. Renfro's habanero. I did not consider myself a wimp! I thought Cherry Bombs were way down on the Scoville scale. But this one pepper had me guzzling milk. I took my contacts out hours later (after washing my hands 10x), and my eyeballs are still burning.

Are home grown peppers much, much hotter than store bought ones? My hat is off to you posters who are regularly chowing down on Bhuts and the like!

I grew Hot Cherry a couple years back, and they were nicely hot...with a smokiness in that thick flesh. I figured they were at least twice as hot as a Jalapeno.

I'm surprised that you found Cherry Bombs hotter than Jals. My experience is that they are very mild. Milder than Jals or Red Cherries. Are you sure you don't have a cross?

I would love to grow Cherry Bombs but they attracted borer weevils pepper maggots and killed a whole year worth of peppers so I stopped growing them. its a shame cuz they are delicious.

Okanagan Cherry Bombs are literal destruction in your mouth. Hotter than Habaneros I have eaten.

I grew HOT CHERRY and it was not that hot despite the name. Good producer though.

I'll have to rescind what I stated above. I just harvested my 1st Cherry Bombs this year and they're much hotter than any others I had raised before. I guess the weather was just right for them.

If you eat a really hot pepper, do not drink milk.

According to TV's Doctor Oz, you want to put some honey in your mouth. He claims it works better. (I forgot why.)
