Tabris aka Raspberry Ice

Does anyone else grow this fabulous rose? She needs some protection from B.S., and winter freeze, but well worth the effort.

There was an artical in the Feb. issuse of the American Rose (ARS) pertaining to this rose. It is really Hanna Gorden. Fantastic rose. I've been growing this beauty since 1991. Big healthy bush and the blooms speak for themself.

Thanks for the information Ken. When I checked in Combined Rose List, I noticed that Hannah Gordon was introduced in 1983 and Tabris in 1989. That's when I purchased 'Hannah' which grows differently than 'Tabris' for me. Hannah is much taller in my garden - Tabris shorter and bushier. The colour shading is a little paler on my Hannah, but they are planted quite far apart so the soil, sun etc could play a big part in the difference.

Anyway, thanks again. I'll be watching for more information on this - although, I would recommend either to anyone who will listen.

Those are very beautiful roses, I really like the ones with shading on the edges like this. Excellent photography too, thanks for sharing that.

I have (what I thought was) Tabris purchased from the now defunct Roserie at Bayfields in April of 2000. I, too had always heard that there was a trio of similar yet distinctly different seedlings, but that article of Phil Schorr's in the Feb. American Rose says no. He passes along information from Thomas Proll of Kordes stating that 'Tabris' was only the sales name given to 'Hannah Gordon' by a Dutch firm and not a separate rose...and furthermore, J&P was the only U.S.nursery licensed by Kordes to sell these particular floribundas and they had chosen not to do so making the origin of any Nicole or Hannah Gordon (AKA Raspberry Ice) being sold in the states not traceable back to Kordes and therefore not verified. Then you throw in the sport of Hannah Gordon sold by Edmunds as 'Glenda Marie' and the whole situation is very confusing. I don't have another specimen to compare with my supposed Tabris, but I do know that I love this rose and wouldn't be without it. It is hardy to the snow line here and a profuse bloomer that catches the eye of everyone who tours my garden!

Thanks annececilia. Comparing the colour of your rose, I certainly have the same one, so obviously you're right what I have is 'Hannah Gordon.' Lots of funny stuff goes on with roses and their names.

    It is beautiful!

Does anyone have the original Nicole? The one that is short? I would love to see a picture of that one.

I concur with what everyone else has said - this is a rose to love! I have grown it throughout my last 3 homes. It is a beauty, very floriferous and disease free. Highly recommended!

That's a wonderful picture of RI. Someone told me it's the same rose as Hannah Gordon, which I have. It sure looks the same to me. I like it a lot.

I love this rose more & more every year. Mine was very slow starting, probably due to my "soil" but now, it's one of the best roses I have. I didn't winter protect this year, she looks fine. I have a few canes that need to be pruned but not many.
