Yep, you didn't harden it off before putting it into direct sunlight. You have to gradually expose the plant to direct sun by starting it off in a shady area, and moving it into sunlight for short periods of time over a week or two. These plants were grown in greenhouses and are not used to such strong sun. Try putting it in an area with shade for a few days, then try moving it into sun. It the area is bright shade, the plant can last there for a week or so before trying to venture out. Don't over water either. If all of the canes turn brown, then it is a goner. Good luck.

Thanks Diane. I did put it in shade for a few days after the flowers started drooping then back in the sun. Now the last canes are turning brown, I think it's gone. Now that I know more, & I'll continue to learn thanks to this forum & helpful people like you, maybe I'll try again next year.

It can be tricky. If you can find some on sale to use as "starters" to get the hang of it, might be worth a try.
