Not sure what you mean by the clump effect. Are you meaning by planting all 3 in one hole?? Are you meaning planting 3 in a triangle or in a row? I'd still think you'd need to plant these at least 2-3 feet apart, I give my smallest minis holes 6 feet apart, meaning even the smallest growing mini has it's own 3 full feet of space.

If you like 3 of one color rose and you like this rose, go for it, it would look very attractive. I don't know anything about this one though. So, I'm just commenting on the grouping.

I mean grouping the roses in a triangle. I have a small garden space. I don't have enough space to plant them 2'-3' apart. Maybe i'll go with 2 roses per 'clump'.

Do the super small mini's fill out/up the 2'-3'? I want the planting to look like one single yellow rose bush (clump) rather than 3 separate mini's. If you're wondering why I don't just go with a traditional rose bush it's because I haven't found a rose with as pretty a flower and has the height, bloom season, spread and color that I would get with the 'Behold".

I'm fairly new to planting minature roses, so please add to my comments the advice of people with more expertise.

Super mini's (micro mini's) that grow to a max. height of 12" or less will not fill up the 2' - 3' space. You could even plant these 12" to 18" apart depending on the spread of the plant and the open space you want to maintain. Also keep in mind that you can influence the size your mini achieves depending on how deep a hole you dig for the roots.

As far as Behold, according to the HMF website, it has "Compact, upright growth habit. Height of 22in. to 26in (55 to 65 cm). Width of up to 26in. (up to 65 cm)."
If you are planting 3 Behold rose bushes and you want them to achieve maximum width, you probably need more than 2' between them. If each plant grows 13" in width from its center that would more than fill up a 2' gap between plants.

If your clump is composed of different yellow minis, it's a good idea to consider the maximum height and width different plant each could achieve.

If you're looking for the perfect rose to use in a small space, mini's aren't the only way to go... you could have any growth habit and color, with continual bloom, the size you want, and it would be hardy, if that's what you need. Plus, quite a few are wonderfully scented!

Thanks for the tips guys. I did some measuring today and i'm thinking micro and regular mini's will do the trick. However, on the Heirloom site, thanks jodik, there are other types of 'regular' roses that also meet my dimension needs. I'm mapping out the whole thing (trying anyway) and figure i'll spend the better part of fall and the early months of winter fooling with, obsessing on and all in all having a great time choosing my new garden bed :).

One thing... jmac_2008, you talk about the size of the mini depends on planting the right hole. Should i treat my mini's differently than i do my other growing friends?

A good rule of thumb for mini roses and mini-flora is a 12" wide and 12" deep hole. If you want to keep your mini roses bushes smaller and more compact than their max. height and spread, plant them in a 10" or 8" hole. Micro-minis (6-12" high plants) will do fine in 8" holes. Good luck!

if you like yellow I think TY is a better rose i have both ty and behold and behold is gonna get shovel pruned this fall. now Ty is a lot taller bush but its yellow doesn't fade like behold does. and ty has been doing a lot better in the rose shows
