Do you count your peppers?

I probably grow on a much smaller scale than most of you, just 6 pepper plants in pots, but of late I have become obsessed with counting my pepper "babies" every morning.

As of today I have

7 Hot Portugals

12 Santiago Hybrids

13 babies on one Jalapeno

30 babies on another

37 on my last jalapeno

And, I name my plants too. Am I completely whacked? :)

I can't wait until they ripen!

Yeah, I count them and record in a spreadsheet the number I harvest. Each harvest is too small to weigh (2-20 per plant) About 360 total so far this year.
I don't count peppers on the plant, but do note in spreadsheet which are blooming and which have set fruit

LOL! I stop counting after about a dozen or so. I DO however go look lovingly at them every single day. I guess i'm a little "whacked", not completely!

i did 1/2 of my first year growing....

I stopped after 2,000..... and that was just one Tabasco plant...

    47 Hot Wax
    11 "Jalapenos"
18 "Cayapenos" - Seeds for both came from same parent plant.
    9 Poblano
    22 Anaheim
    4 Orange Bells

None are ripe yet, few are full size, and the leaves of most are going yellow. My spreadsheet is eagerly awaiting the first "ripening" entry... I hope they make it!

Too many to count. I concentrate on eating them. =)

Counting them, weighing them....sounds normal to me. Although it seems I never stay focused on any one method for long and if life gets busy the records are not kept for awhile.

Naming them?.....maybe just a bit whacko :) I do talk to pepper plants sometimes, and tell them how beautiful they are.
Hmmm.....maybe I'll go visit mine and see if any names come to mind! Nothing wrong with being wacky.

    What have you named yours?

Too many pods to count but I like to sit under my Habanero tree yelling at the birds when they come to eat my pods.

    Naming my plants?
No but I call the birds and bugs a few different names...@#&$%@!. LOL

Easy counting for me, I only grew 1 Serrano this year. I used to grow many more but lately got lazy, lol.

No. I stopped as well. I have realized I've reached a state of madness though.
I've picked a lot of peppers. Here's a batch of pretty much all Chinense types I picked last week:

In the dehydrator, I've only got Fatali's, Habaneros and a few Jamaican Scotch Bonnets:

Here's 3 jars of Biker Billy Hybrids (and a few Scotch Bonnets spread into it to preserve some good'ol heat! :):

Just one of the reasons why I don't count. I picked over this pepper plant 2 weeks ago. I don't know what type of peppers they are (Peppermania business card seeds :), but man, they are hot too:

WOW KJ! that is very impressive. congrats on your beautiful bounty.

    Thanks! :)

I realized that I'm crazy when I saw how many very hot Peppers I have. I am the only one that eats that kind of heat in my household and I gave away 60 plants to friends and co-workers this year (after hardening them off).

There's no way I can even get close to eating all those peppers. But I'm having too much fun growing them :) I ground up the Peppers from the dehydrator today + some I had left from the last time I made spices (oh man, indoors in kitchen, nose running, burning, coughing, woo-haa!). I filled 9 spice jars. Last time, I filled 5 or 6. Actually, I have quite a few friends that have asked me for those spices. I am only planning to keep 3 or so for myself. I'll give away the rest. I don't think they'll be able to buy a Fatali/Hab/ScotchBonnet mixed spice anywhere :) Personally, I think they'll use it for the satisfaction of "surprising" other people. Oh well!

Anyway, sorry for getting a little off topic here. I am starting to see why my wife told me she is going to be happy when I'm done drying/grinding these in the house :)

Without knowing the size of your mystery pods(3/4-1 inch?)
They look a lot like my Columbian Orange Lanterns,C.Chinense.

Naming the peppers? You might get too attached to them, like some 4H people do, who generally give their animals numbers instead of names.
Hmm...should I eat George today, he ticked me off yesterday, or Sally--she looks like a hot one--or possilby Billy, who thinks he can get my goat, but I'll show him by making him into a nice salsa....
Count 'em, name 'em, hey, in all seriousness, it's a part of the enjoyment of growing them and liking this hobby, which, from reading what people have written in this forum have written, seems to me to have some very cool and interesting folks who like peppers for many diverse reasons. You're, of course, one of them.
If they start to talk back to you, however, you might have a slight problem...

Thanks for all the responses, this is fun! It's exciting to see the huge numbers of other growers' harvests even if mine are pretty modest! I'm really impressed and I echo professorcrazy's comment that this forum is filled with very cool and interesting folks!!!
