Mystery rose beheading

Hello all. A rose expert I am NOT. My son bought me a very pretty hybrid tea for mother's day. I planted it in the back yard and it immediately started blooming - four big beautiful blooms. A couple days later two of the fower heads were on the ground a few feet away. The stems looked like the flowers were just snapped off. The plant itself does not appear damaged. Two days later and a third flower head is snapped off. What the heck??? So I am trying to think of the possible cause:

1) Animal, like a raccoon, but the flowers were not eaten. 2) Some kind of disease, but the flowers were too far away.

3) Neighbor kid playing soccer and the ball hit the rose, snapping off the flower. Twice? (The kid is alway climbing over our short fence to retrieve his ball.)

What do you all think? And given this has happened, should I cut the stems down to a leaf node?

Thanks,

Diane in Longmont
