When I grew it some pods had the namesake shape and some did not. There is a lot of normal variation between plants ( even from the same seed batch) and even variation on the same plant.

These Billy Goat pods are all from the same plant

I grew the peter pepper this year too. Mine actually came out wrinkly and resembled a deformed...um, pecker.
The picture looks like an Anaheim or Italian Roaster by the
smooth skin....(my guess)

thanks-
I have Peter pepper seeds if you want.....

I have looked all over for the italian roaster peppers and can not find any that look like the peter pepper that looks like the italian roaster. I would love to get italian roaster peppers that looked like the above picture of peter pepper. I bought an italian roaster plant, thought I saved seeds but then I was told it probably was a hybrid because it produced so well. Would love to have seeds.
I have been told and read that peppers are perennial plants. My brother has a neighbor that has had one for a couple of years. Central coast california. Hot pepper he said. So has any one ever extended their growing season into the winter with plastic or ???. Any info or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I live in Florida and as long as you keep them warm with bed sheets or bring inside on really cold nights they can live for years. They are perennial and where you live you should have no problem overwintering. I just bring mine in the garage and throw a towel over them on cold nights. They struggle a little but come back stronger than ever. My plants that are over 2 years old produce bigger and more abundant peppers.Lots of blogs on this forum. Here is one link

Here is a link that might be useful: overwinter peppers
