If the rose is large, you may need to prune it a bit so you don't get too torn up by the thorns. Another idea is to wrap the limbs and branches of the Rose with a table cloth or heavy
fabric. This way you can get around the edges without too much trouble. I usually run a long machete or knife around the inside of the pot to loosen the dirt away from the side. Then I hit the side of the pot a couple of times with the palm of my hand. If you have a helper one person can hold the pot while turning it on its side as you take a hold of the base of the rose and pull it out of the pot.
