Well, I tried this and it worked...I think. So far it has a few new stalks but no roots. I'll post pics when I see roots.

Hi, sometimes you can get dormant and fresh cuttings to root in water but I find that the roots are too fragile and break off easily when I try and pot them. Hope you have great luck!!! Joe

The stalks wilted then turned black along with the rest of the cane going from top to bottom. Now it is dead. :(
