I'm certainly no expert---this is my second season trying rose seeds--but don't get discouraged yet. It took about 3 months this year before I saw any signs of roots. Then it seemed like popcorn--you get one or 2 pops, and then they go like crazy. Once a particular type of seed started, they'd be cracking open every couple of days. I started mine in October and some still haven't sprouted, but I've got about 100 seedlings started. I'm going to go check for more after I type this.

I've read that the mold is actually beneficial--it's supposed to help break through the seed covering. Some of my seeds were absolutely disgusting with cruddy stuff growing on them, and they've sprouted and started to grow. For some of the seeds, the paper towels have gotten really nasty looking--turning brown and black and full of holes. The seeds don't seem to mind, tho.

You could take the moldy seeds out and soak them in 3%hydrogen peroxide for a few hours and then wrap them up in a new paper towel and put them back in the frig.
