Question Regarding Lemon Drops

I have 2 lemon drop plants. Out of those 2 lemon drop plants I noticed that one plant has fruit that grows upwards (much like a tabasco plant) - is that normal?

I also notice that one plant has some brown streaks in some of the fruit that is growing, at first I thought this was due to molding because we had alot of rain lately; however upon further inspection this seems to be part of the plant - meaning a color stage or a color streak that is growing through it, not anything moldy. Is my lemon drop a hybrid? Or is that normal?

I've included pictures below:

My LD plants looked the same. The pods had some dark coloring toward the end of the season but yellowed as they ripened. Some of the pods started out upright, but eventually hung down as they got larger.

thanks noinwi, this is the first time growing them so i didnt know what to expect.

they've been blooming since may but with the insane heat we had this summer all blooms have been falling off until september - i'm thinking next year i'll have to create a shade house or something for them and i think they are going to be prolific next year.

reyna1, one of my plants were identified as lemon drops. my peppers did the same thing. they began with an upward nature only to point south as the pods gained size. they also remained in that brownish stage for a short time, then as if overnight they suddenly brightened to a soft yellow color. i was following a post on sun-scald, however it appears to be a normal process as yours seem to be doing the same thing and you're talking about rain and mines was more noticable during the hotest days here. they're spindly like plants that branch from the trunk unlike other peppers...requiring support somewhat like a tomato plant, with prolific blooms once set. they're relatively mild tasting peppers. could be good for salsa. i didn't taste much lemon however. they're suppose to have a bit of a lemon taste.

anyway, long post to say it's normal. LOL.

    haha, understood.
actually mine had what i consider medium heat! :P
    i guess i can't take much heat.
i know it was hotter than most jalepeno's but the burn didn't stay long and it was not too bad.
i did taste a citrusy taste but i couldnt taste the lemon.
maybe i have to eat more!! ?

    Reyna,
I believe the 'citrus' taste you noted is supposed to be the 'lemon'. It's not a strong lemony flavor, just a hint, but is a little more noticeable in the fully ripe pods. Also, heat will vary due to temps and can vary in pods on the same plant. Most of my LD's are a medium heat(IMO), but some at the beginning and at the end of the season are a bit milder. Still, eating a fresh pod will bring tears to my eyes. I have a short season here and I start my LD's much earlier(indoors)than other peppers so I can get a decent harvest. I believe the C. baccatums are a longer season pepper. Also, they make a great powder if dried.

I don't know...those brown 'streaks' look ugly. Are they soft or do they feel like the other peppers? I guess if they're firm, then it's ok. Just looks rotten (kind of BER) to me.

As others have said...most of mine start out facing up, but, as they gain size / weight, they droop downwards.

They do have a nice sweet / citrus taste. This is the first year I've grown them, and I'm really liking them!

I have Lemon Drops with streaks as well..and in person my streaks are almost purple. And most of them end up turning bright yellow and losing the purple streak, although a few have retained some purple after ripening.
The above picture looks pretty similar to mine.

yeah, sounds like you were able to taste the lemon in the pepper. did you like it. interesting, a short burn that is. sounds like a good pepper for a mild to moderate sauce, or pickled. intensity is generally subjective.

tsheets. the pods are quite firm when changing color and are most beautiful when mature. my bhuts and 7 pot had a slight brown/rust color just before turning orange then to red. my fatalli's (which was supposed to be bhuts) went straight to yellow, a more vivid yellow when compared to lemon drops maturing to a soft yellow.

funny thing is, i have 2 lemon drops - the plant that is outside is the one that has the brownish/purplish streaks.

the one that i brought inside is going directly from green to yellow

so, you're saying that the brown to yellow may be due to sun? rain? or just being exposed to outdoor elements?
