I suggest keeping them in the pots until fall, and keeping the pots where you will see them everyday. Remember the old saying, "Out of sight, out of mind." If you can remember to keep them watered they should do just fine in gallon pots. Set them out when temperatures are cool, October maybe, or even Nov.

I agree with Chester. Don't be in a hurry to put them in the ground. you could separate them into larger pots as they grow. They grow fast when the weather warms. I usually unpot my baby roses in late fall when I need the pots for new cuttings. By that time the yearlings are pretty large with good root systems.

I would add that when the weather gets really hot in Texas you keep them in a shady place for the first year. Even some of my mature roses get burned in the Texas heat sometimes and I have lost rooted cuttings in an afternoon of hot summer sun around here. Cheryl

Good to have all this information. Since we just had a cold snap come through, I brought it inside for a few days. I didn't want it to freeze. I keep it on my patio where I go out everyday to water my other containers or just enjoy the backyard pond or oay in the hammock in the shade. ;-) Gotta have a nice place to relax after working in the garden, right?
