Is the rose you planted on its own roots? Then perhaps cover it with a two litre pop bottle without its cap until the risk of frost is gone.

Was the rose grafted (was there a 'knot' above the roots) where the variety you bought is grown on another root stock? Then, if you planted that 'knot', the bud union, an inch or two below grade, you probably have no need of the bottle at all.

It was own-root. I think I will leave the jar on about another week. Thanks for answering.

The bottle cap allows too much humidity to escape. I have lost many cuttings in the spring to mold because of too much humidity in bottles. That is why I suggest a plastic, 2 L pop bottle, but another week may not matter.
