Some like 'em hot

20 years ago

I've been practicing on some of the settings on my new camera, and finally have some halfway decent photos to show. Here are some "hot" ones:

Crimson Bouquet

Gold Medal and green friend

{{gwi:288161}}

Love and Peace

{{gwi:332864}}

Annabelle Hydrangea and friends (that's the rose John Clare in left corner)

{{gwi:322320}}

I am getting better, aren't I?

    Kate,
    Love your photos too, especially of Love and Peace and your last shot. Was given my first hydrangea "Limelight" (in exchange for some bearded iris last fall from a friend). Very pretty, didn't know I'd like hydrangeas either! You're good with the camera! :0) Phyl

    Your pictures are so lovely.
    Crimson Bouquet could be a cover picture on a rose book.

    These are great. I'm still having only about a 20 percent success ratio shooting reds, and I can't figure it out. You did an outstanding job on this one.

    Kate, what Ruth said, those are great. I can't see any improvement on these.

    Excellent---it's funny, here I am in California and my gloriosa daisies are only in bud, and there are yours in full bloom ! You must have a micro-climate going !

    Thanks for all the encouraging remarks. I'm a complete novice with a camera, but like you, I'm so proud of my beauties that I just must learn how to capture them permanently.

    dodgerdudette--I think it is all the hot sun in Kansas that makes the difference when it comes to gloriosa daisy blooming--a real sun-lover!

    ralf58--as far as the reds are concerned, I know what you mean! What I was experimenting with was controlling how much light exposure I used--rather dark in this case. Seems to have kept the red from "bleeding."

    bouquet_kansas--my understanding is that early morning or evening is the best time to take rose pictures. But now that I'm gaining more control of my camera, I may try other possibilities also. All these pics were taken in evening light--sometimes with a stray end-of-the-day sunbeam sneaking through and highlighting the rose.

    Glad you all enjoyed them.
