Caring for cuttings after they have rooted

Hi,

Once my rose cuttings have rooted, I find that the new growth does not look healthy.

Here is how I proceedÂ..What am I doing wrong?

As soon as I see new growth on the rooted cuttings, I take them out of their mini greenhouses and I transplant them to a bigger pot filled with a 0.5-0.4-0.2 potting mix which contains a bit of compost and some Myke.

When the plants look a bit dry, I water well and then soak the pots for a couple of hours in a very weak solution of 5-1-1 Fish Emulsion, a bit of Epsom Salts and some Iron. I spray the leaves every few days with the same solution. But still the leaves are a very pale green and sometimes dry and brittle.

Can someone please explain in detail how to have healthy looking rooted cuttings?

I'm definitely NO expert on this, but I would not be fertilizing them for a while.

I plant my rooted cuttings into 3.5 deep pots with a mixture of perlite, peat, and bagged garden soil (Connie's recipe). I think the garden soil may have some fertilizer in it.

Once they get established I may try using some weak fertilizer.

Ty Robert,

I don't fertilize them until I transplant them.

But the problem starts before transplanting - the leaves are anemic looking and get worse as time goes by.

Mind you, I'm in Georgia. It's very humid here so I never tent cuttings. I root in fine vermiculite. Cuttings get about 2 hours dappled morning sun and then shade. Water once a day. When new growth appears, I check for roots. As soon as I have roots, I increase sun to 6 hours. I never fertilize anything after August, that's just my personal habit. I never fertilize cuttings. This years cuttings will get some fertilizer next spring, maybe Bayer 3 way, maybe just 10-10-10. I think that possibly the humidity on the inside of your tent is hindering the brightness of the light. Just my humble opinion.
