The red berry is the seed pod, and there are usually a couple of seeds in it. Barely cover the seed with a light soil and keep it moist.

The seed most likely has already germinated inside the pod. I have seen this on a couple of occasions.

I have clivia naturalizing outside. Most often the seeds have already sprouted inside the red seed pod. The tendril is indeed the first root. I just kind of help things along by peeling the pod carefully not to disturb the roots on the seeds that have already sprouted. Then I plant the seeds where I want them, just barely covering them with soil. If there is a root, I just make a little indentation to place it in first. Leaves sprout and before long there's a little clivia plant. I have half a dozen mature/blooming plants, but one of them seems to be especially fertile - produces most of the seed pods and viable seeds. Chris
