Afrocarpus falcatus is the synonym for Podocarpus falcatus (Outeniqua Yellowwood), which is a medium to large evergreen tree.
Are you perhaps thinking of some other -carpus? Like Streptocarpus?

I saw the plant at the Raulston arboretum in Raleigh and now that I looked up Podocarpus that must be a mistake. Sometimes visitor move the tags around. This thing had leaves like an english cowslip primula hybrid but a little fussier. I don't think it was a gesneriad like cape primrose (streptocarpus spp.) but maybe I'm wrong. I tried locating the curator for the exhibit but the person was not available.

Are there other plants that bloom in early spring and look like a Primrose? Thanks,RJ

I can't think of any others than Streptocarpus.
What colour were the flowers? Can you describe the plant?

Visitors moving name tags around - this must be a wold-wide happening, also in the Kirstenbosch Conservatory last time I was there...
