I started several s. regla seeds a week or so ago. I like using a seed starting mix like Jiffy moistened, pressing the seeds into the soil but not covering them. I use seed trays with the plastic cover placed under shop lights. I also mist the seeds every day or so. But you can also use pots with the seeds covered with plastic in a bright window. My seeds only took a couple of days to germinate and have their true leaves, I'm potting them up in their own pot.
S. regla grows great here for me, love those flowers too.

Make sure you have the seeds and not the irregular gynobase. The seeds should be roundish with the base where it was attached somewhat elongated. The ripened seeds should be dark brown to black and shiny. Don't use seeds that are mouldy, and let them thoroughly dry out for a few weeks before planting.

Use bottom heat at 75 - 80 degrees in a room in the 60s with the seed on the surface, lightly covered with milled spaghnum.

I've gotten up to 75 - 85% germination this way, but sometimes as little as 35%.
