It will bloom the first year from seed.

It is a Zone 9 rated species. Although I have had it overwinter here if it was in a protected location as next to the house.

Collect the seed each year and grow new plants from the seed each spring.

This is an annual near Dallas. It throws it's seeds out and comes up without tending in the shady areas where DH doesn't mow. The pink ones reverted to white.

i'm in 7a and mine have reseeded for 10 years.

Salvia coccinea can also be wintersown. I usually do mine in March. I just did my second batch today.
