I think its supposed to come up in early spring. For me that will be in march. Ill let you know if mine flowers. Ive had it since last summer.

I should be getting enough growth so the cuttings we had talked about can be rooted.

Your S. hierosolymitana (I THINK this is the correct spelling!) looks like the real thing. Not an easy Salvia, it flowers so early and the inflorescences can get badly damaged by late frosts. This species is often muddled with S. eigii and S. viscosa........but the latter is much later-flowering. But it is very beautiful for a short period. It can behave as a biennial if you don't cut off the spent blooms....but a no-win situation if you want to collect seeds!

I have rooted cuttings off of flower stems ie:
S "May Night" ,superba and nemerosa types. A few
Penstemons(Biennial Types) and still kept the plants alive.

Your spelling is correct. I get a little punchy w/spelling sometimes due to a lack of sleep. I will triple check next time.

As I recall, the flowers of S. hierosolymitana are deep blood red and the size of those of S. pratensis or S. guaranitica. I believe it is related to S. forsskolii

the flowers are quite large. about 2-3 cm.

I just bought one in bloom, from UCBerkeley. It looks like Brent's photo. As I recall from their garden, it grows to be HUGE, much bigger than what Wiki states. Does that ring true for anyone? This will help me decide where to place it in the garden.

the basal clump on mine is roughly 2-2.5 feet wide.
