I planted Mystic Spires Blue on Mar. 3rd, and it is growing like a weed. It is already 24" tall and developing bloom heads.

I've also planted a couple in my mailbox garden. They're doing well with lots of blooms. Just curious as to how they'll perform during the hot summer months in Tampa. I planted them in mid Feb. This morning I decided to fertilize them to give them a spring boost. My taller blooms are probably 24inches, shorters 12 to 18.

I took a tape measure out to the garden this morning and from the ground to the tip of the highest bloom on my Mystic Spires Blue is 42". These plants were about 6" or 7" tall when I planted them on Mar. 3rd. If dwarfism was the goal, no cigar. But if shear beauty was the goal, it is an overwhelming sucess! By the way, I live 35mi. south of Houston.

This has suddenly become available in garden centres in the UK. The plants have originated from Holland. (Surprise?)

Certainly the foliage is like that of the lovely 'Indigo Spires' but I am highly suspicious that this plant is an artificially dwarfed 'Indigo Spires'. May be fine in the first year, but may revert to the size of the ungainly hybrid next year???

We must just try it and see.

Last year I was in Holland and saw on sale 12 inch flowering plants of S. guaranitica 'Black and Blue', known in the USA as 'Costa Rican Blue'. They looked great, BUT had been treated with a chemical to reduce the size. The one I bought soon reached the normal height of 6 ft. All the small S. splendens have been treated accordingly, the true species being up to 3 metres tall.

I live in NC (Raleigh area). Does anyone know where I can get the Mystic Spires Blue???? I adore the Indigo Spires so I'm really excited to try this dwarf one.

You might want to check in Home Depot. I found them in Lowe's too though they had them mislabeled.

I got mine at HD, but be carefull, they had two very different salvias labled as mystic spires, I checked to make sure it wasn't just a misplaced lable. different plants coming from different growers but the same lable. I wasn't sure which was the right one so I got one of each and we'll see.
