Transylvanica should work, although I noticed that it didn't like crowding very much. Patens has alway wilted in the summer heat for me and mexicana does what to bloom (at least for me) until into October.

Salvia Macrophylla flowers are the truest blue and mine is planted in full sun with no side effects.

Guaraniticas and farinacea Indigo Spires will bloom during the same period, but may be too large. Maybe farinacea Mystic Spires will work. Salvia glechomaefolia and S. sinaloensis are actually smaller than coccineas. Salvia chaedryoides with sky-blue flowers and silver foliage might work.

You have to add red and white Salvia macrophylla 'Hot Lips!'

I do have 'Hot Lips' and you're right, I should take some cuttings and add those. I have salvia guaranitica 'Black and Blue' but in my yard, that turns into a shrub. I also looked up the s. macrophylla and it looks too big as well.

Rich, I don't have any of the ones you mentioned. Do you have those in your collection, and are they available for purchase from you? The farinacea is the only one that I have familiarity with. I had Victoria Blue and Victoria White, and they were completely overwhelmed by 'Lady in Red' last year. LOL, Victoria was too sedate, I guess.

Salvia macrophylla Tingo Blue should keep up with 'Lady in Red'. So should Salvia cacaliaefolia, which will bloom midsummer on. This has the same pure blue color as patens and Tingo Blue.

Rich, you have a lot of good suggestions. I will have to make multiple containers to try these out. I am not familiar with either Tingo Blue or cacaliaefolia so I will have to google both.

Oh, the cacaliaefolia is vining? I see a hanging basket for that one, but not with the coccineas. I think the salvia macrophylla would get too big, based on what I read. I will add the cacaliaefolia to my list, though.
