larenatc, I live in southeast Alabama about 85 miles from the gulf, hot and humid here in the summers. I grew Black Brandywine last year. It was a terrible year for tomatoes for me but they did ok and were really a good tasting tomato. They didn't set fruit real good in the extreme heat of midsummer but they set a few along. I'm goin' to try'em again this year along with nine or ten other varieties.

Thanks for the reply. At least it sounds slightly possible. Will give them a try and gonna try some better boys beside them. Would be interested to see if any of those (9-10) varieties do well for you. Good luck.

Hope your tomatoes do good too! Of the heirlooms I grew last year the Purple Cherokee did the best and they taste as good as the Black Brandywine to me. Everyone has different tastes in tomatoes it seems. But, you might want to consider them as well. It's a good idea to have some of the varieties that do good in The South such as Better Boys for backup. I do that too but love fooling with the heirlooms. The new ones I'm tryin' this year are 'supposed' to produce good in hot and humid weather. We'll see and I'll let you know how they do.
