Gardenia pruning

I have 3 gardenias planted last year. All did well blooming this year. All three have a lot of foliage near the ground about 1 ft in diameter and about 1 1/2 ft tall and all three have two tall skinny stalks about 3 to 4 feet high. These have a good bit of foliage and had good blooms but they look out of place. Should these tall stalks be pruned down to match the others or leave them alone hoping they will fill in and get stronger??

TIA
