The 100$ plants were of a smooth green leaf type with no channeling. The leaf arrangement was distichous and the overall heigth was between 8" and 15". I'm thinking a serious labeling problem here.
I've just looked at the pictures and they do seem to be correct. The channeling occurs when the plants are kept dry, once they are watered & in full growth they do become almost cylindrical. Also the plants pictured in the link are juvenile plants, look like pups off a leaf cutting. A semi-mature plant could have more of a distichuous habit & then as it grows into maturity it tends to swirl & twist a bit. S. schweinfurthii is smooth, generally glossy & dark green with almost cylindrical leaves without pronounced grooves.
$100 seems a lot to pay for a plant the size you mention. How many leaves does it have.
Yea I see a big one with 6 leaves now 20 some inches tall for 7.00 with 6.00 shipping and handling. I also seen another place that has it for 20.00 and 9.00 S&H. I would have to say something to the seller of that plant.
