It's a great plant, Joseph, but I dug mine up, because I only have just so much space in my garden, and I like to have plants that feed hummingbirds and butterflies for a long time. Salvia guaranitica, another one of the high sugar content salvias, blooms from April - November, providing lots of nectar for hummers and b'flies. I loved my s. regla - it had the biggest flowers of any salvia I've grown, and the branches would bend to the ground from the weight of the blooms, but it always bloomed just after the hummers had left here - too bad!

Salvia chiapensis attracts hummers and blooms ALL year in my zone. Here, it never stops blooming... never slows down. It's like the Energizer bunny of the garden.

Regla gets very, very big. I have two of them (both Chisos Mountain), and although they've only been in the ground a few years, they're huge. I fully expect them to reach 6, maybe 8 feet in height, and probably a good 6' wide. I know they're hardy through zone 8, but not sure about zone 7. Above that, I'm not sure; I'll have to pull out my Clebsch book and give it a look-see.

And yes, the butterflies and hummers LOVE it!
