Actually, that 1600 block of Henry will flood even in a big puddle of spit. It's a short, but deep, railroad underpass that is badly drained and all the water for blocks pours down into it. And people insist on trying to drive through it.

but we did have a whole heap of rain is a little bitty period of time yesterday. Especially around the time of the tornado watch. The storm sewers in the City simply could not handle it. That's what happens when you build in a place that was once swamp and is below sealevel.

Every now and then, when the City and County gets into a squabble about something, the County threatens to quit maintaining the big drainage canals and then the City would just float out to sea.

If we get as much tonight and tomorrow as they are expecting, we will have a bunch of angry people. I don't know of anything that could be done to make the rain go somewhere else.

The tide will be coming in at a bad time with the high tide at about 8:00 Saturday morning. The flood gates will be closed in the City until the tide goes out enough to release them. That's one thing nice about living on an island like we do, unless someone just happens to be in a low, low spot, the excess water just runs off the edges into the marshes when the tide changes. None of this waiting around until the storm sewers can empty. LOL

My prayers go out for everyone in the path of both of these hurricanes. I used to live in Wilmington NC and have been through hurricanes...I know how scary they can be.
