Pinching Victoria Blue

Hi everyone! Just read in Garden Gate magazine about pinching back tall seedlings, like my Victoria Blue salvia when you plant them. Of course, I already planted mine about a week ago. Should I pinch them now? If so, would it be possible to root the stems I pinched off? I have a new house with lots of garden space to cover so I am really into making more plants for free or cheap! Plus, I love Victoria Blue. Thanks for your comments!

I don't know about rooting what you pinch off, but you can certainly still pinch them back... I usually take 1/3 or more off if they're leggy. However, they tend to branch well regardless, so if you don't want to do it or don't have time you'll still get nice plants. 'Victoria' is one of my all-time favs -- I used to grow a 25' row of it every summer in front of a row of Russian sage. Enjoy!
