Water in now thoroughly, then give it some liquid fertilizer, just don't over do it, then leave it alone until it dries out. Watering to often and very little at a time can kill the plant. It likes to be rootbound, and will tell you when it need to get out of the pot. If it is a very old plant and has been in that same soil for a long time it may need to be repotted with fresh new potting mix, we don't use soil from the garden for these plants.
What size pot is it in? Perhaps it has just outgrown the pot. The safest way to water is put it into a bucket of water and let sit for an hour, take out and drain, put liquid fertilizer into the pot to get that job done, once a month in the summer would not be too often.
