Anyone grow this? I got it on ebay and it's supposed to be cool climate. It is growing well in the heat and humidity but has not bloomed yet. When is the bloom season?
It is a late bloomer, and culture is very similar to S. divinorum, meaning it likes shade, humusy soil, moisture, and protection from heat and drought. It is a really late bloomer, but worth it if you have a greenhouse or cloud forest conditions.
Thanks, I won it on ebay. I have the shade but not the cloud forest conditions, hot and steamy here. It is doing well, so well that I need to pot it on. It's in a gallon container and I have to water often, the roots have filled the pot. How late is late? Fall I hope not winter! {{gwi:1242384}}
As to when you need to repot, you have stated the two critical conditions: The pot is full of roots, and you have to water frequently.
I'm having better success with Salvias since I am blending my old potting soil (standard peat-perlite mix) with one having composted peanut hulls. The plants seem to withstand stress better, but they have yet to experience our hot, humid summer weather.
Does the foliage of Salvia recurva have a fairly strong scent? I've got 2 plants (from different provenance) which look similar, but one has scent and the other does not. Thanks
