Beautiful picture. This really is a lovely Salvia, with the wonderful, hairy, silver foliage. Only downside is that the flowering period is so short. The inflorescence on a mature plant is even more "candelabrum" shaped than that of Salvia candelabrum.........a Salvia I have always had problems with!

You mention two of my favorite Salvias, Robin - but two in which I share your frustration. During the warm summer they grow well here. The rest of the year it is a challenge to get them through. But the tall branches inflorescence and the jewel like quality of the flowers make them booth keepers.

Hi Kermit,

Thusfar S. candelabrum seems to be very happy overhere. With S. cyanescens I still need to find out how easy it survives our winters.

This plant grows very well for us until the dark wet days of Winter, when it wants to run away to Palm Springs!

I started this one from seed this year, just planted out. Can't wait to see it grow, I can already tell the leaves are wonderful, bet the slugs would agree.
