With the pot curving inwards, makes it the worse possible pot to plant in. May have to cut up the plant or break the pot on the next replanting. Also must use a good draining soil. Any collected water in the soil will rot this plant out. Does you new pot have drainage holes in it? also Regular potting soil is ok if used 50% perlite in it. But must still watch it watering. Treat this plant like a cactus.
All said, it is a good plant to start with . It will take a lot of abuse and still live. Just don't overwater it.

the leaves were probably supporting each other in the small pot, now the individuals are spread out. Don't worry there is nothing wrong with your plant. But like Stush says
be careful with the water. Give it as bright a light as you can, but full sun not needed. It will tolerate low light, but grows much better in better light

OT: Why is the grow light on for only 8 hours a day? Does it get any natural light in addition to that?

Other than the pot being an expensive casualty in this planting, I think it looks really good. Just watch it with the water. I've noticed it's harder for me to water the short and wide pots properly.
