What's happening to my snakey?

When I first got my sansevieria, it came in this tiny pot, and the spikes grew straight, green, and twisty. As it got bigger (it was THRIVING in there too!) it started to spread outward into a V-shape. So I repotted into what you see here. The poor guy seemed to not do so well (I'm guessing because it was no longer nice and cozy in the small pot?), and now its a little more yellow, but I finally started to see some new leaves coming up through the soil, so I'm assuming it is still alive.

Why is it fanning out on the sides still? It sits under a grow light, which is on for about 8 hours a day (I have no idea if that is too much or too little, but it seems to be doing well).

Any suggestions are appreciated! I know next to nothing about growing houseplants, and books/troubleshooting via the internet just hasn't been cutting it for me :)

Thanks!
