They are hard to find but not impossible to find.

Why not have some fun with it? See if you can get it started indoors then if successful move it outdoors before it gets too big. Plant the seed in a "tube" shaped pot of some sort so the root can grow straight down until it is transplanted. This is your little treasure so place a chicken wire cage around the plant to protect it from critters and to mark where it is located.

Then follow standard seed saving instructions/methods for growing and harvesting seed from biennial vegetables. Do not have any Daucus carota Queen Anne's Lace (wild carrot) anywhere near your carrot at flowering stage or they could cross pollinate and ruin your treasure.

Carrots have perfect flowers, so should self pollinate but it is always better to have several of the same variety cross pollinating each other to minimize plant inbreeding and general weakening of the strain. You obviously do not have this option but be aware that even if you are successful getting seed the seeds may not produce the best Oxheart carrots.

Lastly, if successful, trade some of your Oxheart Carrot seed with me! :-)

I would have to keep it far away from the actual garden plot as there is Queen Anne's Lace up there. It may have to spend it's life in the pot and just sink the pot in the ground over the winter like a potted perennial.Then lift in spring and segregate again. I will certainly share seeds. It may take a generation or two before there are enough seeds to plant for eating and not just saving, if you don't mind growing for seed saving for the first couple rounds.
