Sarah, your pretty salvia has leaves very similar to salvia microphylla "Red Velvet' that I just recently got. Mine is not blooming yet.

I'm no good at this salvia ID stuff, I'm too inexperienced and frankly while many look alike, there's those like microphylla that are the same but don't look alike. We haven't had the final word on this genus.

But real question isn't the identity of the salvia. The real question is:"if you didn't plant it, who did?" What's going on in Montgomery County Pennsylvania? I have a few friends there, and now I'm concerned about them. Do they need to be checking their gardens each morning on the off chance that someone other than themselves may have been planting overnight? This garden spirit is no ordinary sprite who leaves you 200 square feet of wave petunias and a gazing ball. This is a highly educated sprite who leaves botanical puzzles. Be very careful around this plant, and quit breaking it off: this may be one of those plants you don't want to get on the wrong side of.

True ward, I don't know if a hummingbird brought it or I had it from last year I do have alot of microphylla's that came back along with greggii's and two surpise uricas!! no guaranitica's though I have to buy them new every year. Sarah
