Robin try rose canes or prunings, if you don't have any roses beg some off your neighbours. Also we have a plant here( a coleus I think) fancifully called variously 'Cat-off, Dog-off and Bunny-off! I haven't a lot of esperience with it but it is meant to be repulsive to these creatures, it does indeed not smell very good, but doesn't go as far as to repel me. You might see if you can locate and give it a try. Or what about a patch of catnip for the moggins.

Correcting myself here Robin, I found my plant tag and it actually read Bunnies Gone! It is Coleus canina hybrid. Also sold as Cat be gone! and Scaredy Cat etc. It appeaars to be available in England.

How about some chicken wire or whatever you call it across the pond? If you raised it up on pegs it would tangle its feet and it wouldn't be able to scratch in the soil. I'm fortunate at the moment, our cat Blackberry rarely digs in the garden, that is discounting freshly planted peas in March - not that it matters, we have a tougher problem, pea loving groundhogs.

Thanks for the advice. We have this coleus type plant also, but my cat has lost her sense of smell! I have placed some sticks and wire around the area, seems to be working...just looks unattractive.

Robin, I got my Lee Valley catalogue in the mail this morning, they carry gardening tools and gadgets, and I came across a product (mfg. in England) called CatScat, it's sort of a rubber mat with rubber pokey spikes that you secure down with the enclosed spikes. Can be cut to fit your configuration. Maybe that would look less conspicuous.
Or what about just some large attractive rocks placed strategically ?
