I usually use Al's mix for most of my houseplants, But a while ago as I was repotting a few plants, I realized I had run out of some of the ingredients. In a pinch I used a bag of phaleonopsis mix (mostly fir bark, a bit of charcoal and perlite) I added a bit more of perlite, and a small scoop of vermiculite. Also, I broke up the bark pieces into dime sized or smaller bits. (Time consuming, but watching Mythbusters whilst doing so made it bearable ;) )

It's only been a few months, but I'd say my sans are pretty pleased. Depending on the size of the sans and the bark peices, I would suggest throwing the bark in the processor for a few spins to break it up a bit. Some mixes contain pieces that are up to 3", IMO that's much to large.

All in All, By itself, I just don't think it would do the trick. However, orchid mix could be a great starting point, and could work wonderfully if amended a bit.

Orchid mixes are so porous that I don't think they would anchor a tallish Sansevieria from falling over, would they? I don't think an orchid mix would be the potting mix of choice, but have fun experimenting.
