purple rain companions

I'm pretty sure I have purple rain. I really can't believe it was as washed out a color when i bought it, but there they are, big sturdy and really needing a boost of something else.

What do you plant it with, either complementary or contrasting that brings out its best qualities? I mean primarily color, not just form.

Thanks. Maybe your idea will keep it from the compost pile.
