Nice to hear about others enjoying this plant. It has been a great plant here and is a much better performer than any other salvia with similar colored flowers for us in this climate.

There appear to be 2 forms. The low form is sort of like a squash plant in habit and appears to be very tough. In fact, it has been hardy down to the mid to low 20s and mine has seeded out quite a bit.

I now have what is supposed to be the "upright form" which is reputed to not be so hardy. Has anyone overwintered the upright form in the ground?

The official name appears to be S. macrophylla which definitely seems like a good name for these. I hope there are more new salvia coming into cultivation like this one....
