I have one S. eremostachya remaining in a #1 pot. The plants I planted out didn't survive. I'll probably put my surviving plant in a large pot. Judging from their native habitat, great drainage is probably critical for them. I haven't seen S. mohavensis yet. Maybe this coming winter. I live in Temecula, CA.

BTW, to your earlier ocmment: S. mohavensis is a sun-lover. Shouldn't be possible to give it too much. But drainage should be high priority.

I germinated S. mohavensis from USA seeds a couple of times. Germination was good...........but our climate is obviously quite unsuitable for this rather small but very very cute Salvia. The plants grew very well, and promptly died when in bud. Experienced similar problems here with S. funerea, was thrilled that seeds germinated...did actually see some tiny flowers.....then the plant died......BUT been there and done that!!! Have to say that the foliage of S. mohavensis has the most disgusting smell...........and I have 2 new kittens causing havoc in my garden...........refuse to say "yard"!!!

Currently have healthy plants from seedlings of S. summa and S. texana. Both are flowering in pots in my garden. All small, maybe I should have planted these in poorer soil? Both species are cute, if not spectacular....but I would like to show these at their best. Any tips?

Have to say that S. Mohavensis has the stinkiest foliage! Yuk!!!
