The seed will look like hard small round brown balls and will rub off the spike. It isn't necessary for the spike to dry completely, but you should make sure the seed is brown and hard. The seed will stay on the spike (i.e., won't fall off easily) but keep an eye out for birds eating it.

Because Purple Majesty is hybrid, there's a chance (apparently 50-50) that saved seed won't come true and you will end up with some green plants. But I've also read posts on these forums that say the percentage of purple plants is higher. Just FYI.

I have had 2 years of sucessive sewing (last year from the year before's seeds and this year from last year's seeds) and all so far have been just as the originals.
