I know it is longer to germinate than the average 7 to 10 days for many salvias, so patience is indicated.

I thought I'd bump this thread, as I recently came across S. spathacea seed that I "wild collected" near a kids' playground. The flowers are a coral + magenta bicolor. Progeny might prove interesting, but it looks like it will be a long wait (?).

I don't say that I grow S. spathacea, but I have a plant in my garden in the light shade of a Palo Verde. It is spreading with a couple of pups, but thats about it. I have Live oaks on my property, but they are naturally growing in a wash acres away. I do amend this plant with composted oak leaves. I will divide some plants out and put out in the wild area, but with deer and Javalina I am not sure about their survival.
