This is my first year actually collecting seeds. It is amazing how tiny
some seeds can be..

Wow, today I decided to collect some seed from my red Bee Balm. It is
not easy at all. Even if I crush the dried heads they don't come out.
They stick to the base of the dried flower. Mine look black, and they
are small. I wanted to share seeds of my Bee Balm with some members
that ask for it. Now if someone wants some, I think I will send them the
whole seed heads.

Are your buds good and dried? When mine are dry, the seeds will fall out into my hand when I turn the browned blossom upside down. I'd think if you send the whole seed head, that it might not contain mature seeds or it might mold if not entirely dry.

They are as dried up as can be. Have been for awhile. Maybe they
fell out before I picked them. Will try again. Thanks

What I managed to do to my surprise is that I had put some dried heads in a plastic bag and forgot about them. Tonight I picked the bag up and hit it against the side of a box. To my amazement a bunch of little tiny seeds fell out inside the bag. After that I isolated the heads to the corner of the bag, made a ring with my thumb and index finger securing the heads in the corner, and then I just went at it hitting, flicking, and slapping the seed heads. I have never done this before and I couldn't believe how well it work. Now I have all this seed and can't wait to but it in the harden and attract the bees and hummingbirds.
