I decided it is much easier to print my own seed labels on "real" envelopes rather than trying to cut, fold, and paste my own. I had a lot of small envelopes from Christmas cards and others I never sent. I copied seed illustrations, descriptions, and instructions from commercial on-line seed sites (for my own use and gifts, of course, not for resale). I added my own comments. Today's ink jet printers work great and will take about any size envelope you feed them. Try it! It is so-so easy.

The small plastic (2x3) ziplocks are much easier to use. I use address labels printed off the computer to put the name and info on the ziplock. I can usually get two labels from each label, so a sheet of 30 labels will give me 60 labels. The ziplocks can be found in the craft section of Walmart, or most any hobby store. Walmart's price is $1.00 for 100.

but isn't it better to store them in paper for moisture control? If not then I am keeping mine in sandwich baggies like I use when I am collecting them.

Kathy, if they are dry when you package them, there is no problem. For trading purposes, the small 2 x 3 ziplocks are wonderful, they are usually the perfect size for a small amount of seeds. I store all my bulk seed inside the quart freezer ziplocks. In fact, I organize and store my trades (incoming and outgoing) in the quart size ziplocks too!

For drying purposes, I have come to love my disposable ziplock containers, they are cheap, stackable when necessary, reusable and don't tie up all my cooking bowls!!! Brown paper lunch bags work fairly well too, except little seeds get caught in the bottom folds and creases.

I got one of these templates and used brown wrapping paper and made it two layers thick. Glued it all together, put bubble wrap on the inside to protect the seeds. Makes a good and inexpensive mailer.

Another idea is to use your old envelopes that come with your junk mail. Seal them closed, then cut them in half. You can put your seeds in and tape or staple them closed. I love to recycle!

I use 4oz Glad containers for seed collection and storage. When I want to trade or share seeds, I use sandwitch baggies or coin envelopes.
