All basil seeds are tiny black balls. Once the flower heads get dry on the plant, I cut them off, and put them straight into a big baggie. You won't lose many seeds that way. Then you can shake the bag, and you will see all the seeds going to the bottom. I then transfer the seeds to a small paper envelope so no moisture will stay with them. So just don't seal them up in the baggie is the main point: )
I can't help you with the curry seeds. Do you have a botanical name for your plant?

I lay mine out on a paper plate and let them air dry for about a month or so until they are absolutely paper dry.

Then I hold the seed pod by the tip of the pod (the end opposite the one where you cut it off the plant), gently pinch the stem and then run my fingers straight down the stem "Ziiip"-ing off the seed laden flowers as I go.

You can then grind the flowers between your fingers to free the seeds OR (my favorite) I take all the flowers and put them in a wire basket strainer and just rub (very hard) to grind the dry flowers against the screen. The seeds fall through the screen along with the chaff. You then have to winnow the seeds (I do it in front of an electric fan set on low or on a slightly breezy day but be careful not to blow the seeds away too. :)

amino-x, I am not at all familiar with "winnowing". Could you explain how you do it? How do you know which types of seeds need to be winnowed?
