Looks like S. cylindrica. I don't know how to remove that stuff or if you can, but that's terrible! Aren't the glued flowers on cacti and spray painted succulents enough? :/

Buy it and let the paint slowly flake off. Or at least new off-shuts will come up to fill in the plant. Each stem cutting should produce it's own rhizomes and new shuts. In time, maybe we can forget the painted tops.

I've never seen one for sale either way, painted or plain. Half of me would hate to patronize such ridiculousness, the other half would want the painted one to propagate... like Stush said, for the pups that would be normal.

Is the grower name on these plants? Who here would NOT like to write these folks a letter?
