Wait until they turn dark. Green ones are not mature and will not germinate. Seeds are attached by tiny filiment and will hang on for quite some time even after they turn black.

Thanks for the help PP; some are starting to brown, and I've been checking the ground. So far, so good; I haven't noticed any fallen seeds, but I'll keep checking.

Thanks again Bigred. I waited, and they darkened nicely while remaining on the pod. Some were shriveled, but I noticed that those stalks were brown as well, so I'm discarding those seed (not alot).

Hi Tracey, if you have any to trade I'd love some. I saw them in Atlanta Botanical garden this year and been wanting them forever!

A tiny bit of old pantyhose wrapped round the pod & secured with a pin or little craft peg will save seed losses, in case things split one day when you are not around.
