Hi Drippy,
I found they can be moist inside a blackened pod. I now wait until the whole stem is darkened also. They seem to be completely dry or at least dry enough to go in a paper envelope by then. I don't really think the moisture means the seeds are not viable. It is just like beans picked from dry pods still not being totally dry themselves. But is a pain to have to dry them so that is why I wait.
