You COULD put 1/2 in now and keep the rest dry and cool for next spring.

I just started a bunch of them.

2 wks ago, I started a new bed and scattered some hollyhock seeds b/f spreading mulch. Now, to my surprise, new baby plants are coming up thru the mulch. Aren't these bi-annual plants, and will they bloom next year since they've started this year? (Never quite grasped that bi-annual thing.)

I posted a similar question over on Cottage Gardens, and the response that I got was that some take two years to bloom and some don't. lol - How's that for specific?!

Anyway, seems like I always end up w/ the kind that need a full two years. I haven't put any in the ground yet, but in years gone by, I've done a late summer planting & experienced the same thing - they come up & get very bushy. They actually managed to stay relatively green throughout most of the winter, which was surprising given their northerly location. But the following year, they greened back up & then shot straight up to the sky!

I've collected several seeds from the ones that bloomed this year (planted last year) & I'm planning to get them in the dirt this weekend. Hoping I'll have a repeat of that good luck.

Long story short (and based on just my experience): yes, they should bloom just fine next year, even tho they've started this year.

Thought you should try to notice the little snout-nosed bugs that might be on your hollyhock seeds. If you plan on storing any until next year, set the harvested seeds out away from the plants for a few days until these little guys die. Then store in dry container or envelope.
