It is only 8 months since the earlier "Young one" photo, and this grown from seed S. 'Ed Eby' is starting to show hints of what it will look like when mature. It will be a while until it looks like its parents. Yale

'Ed Eby' name was changed from
'Patens' of KoKo Crater. A hobbyist decided to just change the name. It wasn't his creation. 'Patens' was an old and accepted name, I don't know the nomenclature rules about changing hybrid names. This man never found the plant there. Alice Waidhoffer did. Norma

S. patens still IS an accepted name, only all plants sold under that name are offspring of the Koko plant which is not the real S. patens but a garden hybrid, named now 'Ed Eby' in honour of the collector.

This seed grown plant is really progressing and it should develop a leaf like its parent in a few more months. It is a fairly fast growing Sans.

Ed Eby, patens and Koko are three different plants. Koko does resemble patens, except that it sways somewhat and is not evenly layered as patens is. I will get a photo of each to compare.

The Ed Eby is entirely different and has broad channeled leaves that can grow to four feet long. I believe this species is mono-phyllic (one leafed plant).

Ed Eby has numerous plants to his name. One in particular is named after his wife, Alva.
